Call for Abstracts

Submission period extended until April 15th

The organisers of the IGSC 2020 invite all Bachelor, Master and PhD students from around the world to submit abstracts for a poster presentation or oral presentation for the 9th International Geosciences Student Conference hosted from July 5 to 10 at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. The main topics of the conference will be Energy, Environment & Sustainability, Engineering and Resources and abstracts as well as presentations should be related but not ultimately be limited to these topics. The IGSC provides a platform for students at all levels and young professionals of all geoscientific and related disciplines to present their current research and thesis work in form of a poster or oral presentation to other students from around the world, scientists from different universities, research institutes, industry representatives, and sponsors.

Abstracts will be peer reviewed. Acceptance will be based on content, available space, and overall program balance.

Here is your opportunity to practice your academic skills!

Improve your visual and networking skills by presenting a poster, practice talking by doing an oral presentation, and boost your writing abilities by submitting an abstract.​ All abstracts will be reviewed and send back to you for correction. After resubmission and a second review, you will be notified about the acceptance of your abstract. 

BSc. and MSc. students are highly recommended to join the fun! Our team will help you during the review process to present your work in the best possible way.

The best presentations and the best posters during the IGSC 2020 will be awarded with attractive prizes.

Guidelines…

Abstract Guidelines:

Please apply the following rules:

  • All abstracts must be written in English
  • For poster presentations a maximum of 500 words
  • For oral presentations a minimum of 500 words and a maximum 1,000 words for oral presentations shortly outlining the aim of the study, your methodology, and results of your work
  • Colored figures are allowed. One image file, for example graphs, tables or diagrams can be included in the abstract. The image file can thus have multiple figures, and/or tables. All figures and tables must have a caption
  • Equations can be included in the text and must be numbered
  • All figures including tables and equations need to be referenced in the text
  • All citations need to be numbered and chronologically ordered after their appearence in the text
  • All citations need to have a reference at the end, and all references at the end need to be cited in the text
  • Please use the citation style APA in your list of literature
  • ​Include the following co-authors: project supervisors, anyone who helped you design the research, carry out the research, or formulate the ideas which are described in the abstract. This is especially important if this abstract describes work from a thesis or a journal publication

Presentation Guidelines:

Oral Presentation:

  • Presentation time: 10 minutes + 3 minutes for questions and discussion
  • There is no conference template for the oral presentation
  • You have to hand in the oral presentation via email to scientificprogramme(at)igsc2020.rwth-aachen.de as a *.ppt or *.pptx file by the 30.06.2020

​Poster Presentation:

  • Please use the provided poster template from our website
  • The poster should be prepared in the A0 format (1189 mm x 841 mm) in the vertical orientation
  • Text should be readable from a 3 m distance, therefore we suggest using at least 24 font size for the body text and bigger for titles and section headings.
    References and funding information (if applicable) should be included
    Do not forget to add contact information.
  • You have to hand in the poster via email to scientificprogramme(at)igsc2020.rwth-aachen.de as a *.ppt, *.pdf, *.pptx file by the 30.06.2020
